This home was beautiful. The personality of the house is what makes this house so special. We had 10 adults and everyone had their own space when needed. The views from the kitchen and from the bedroom decks were amazingly. The flowers and plants around the home were wonderful. We did not use all the amenities the house had to offer but it was nice to know they were there. We have had a wonderful time here. Thank you
Good house for a large group; needs updates

This house was good, but not great. Pros: The house was large enough to accommodate 10 people, and had a good number of bathrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with cups, plates, pots and pans, and utensils. It has a large screened porch, which was great for outdoor dinners. If you are looking for historical charm, this house has a lot of it. Plus, the views from all of the windows were truly spectacular. You cannot beat this location. Cons: While the inside of the house was very clean, there was some clutter that should have been in storage; for example, a ladder in the closet for one of the kids rooms, and the back corner of the outdoor porch had a cabinet with a lot of different random things stacked on top and next to it. Also, one of the pocket doors to the upstairs bedrooms did not close, and since it adjoined another bedroom and a bathroom, this was not ideal for privacy. That said, the rental service offered to have someone come look at it during our stay, but with limited time on vacation, we decided not to spend part of it with someone doing maintenance on the house, though we did appreciate their prompt response. The doorknob came off another door (we screwed it back in but it came off twice more), and one of the light switches in a bedroom was not working properly, causing he lights to turn on and off intermittently. Finally, the spring on one of the patio doors was broken, and certain of the rooms could use new shades or curtains. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, as we always do with this company. That said, for the price of the rental, the owner should do some much needed updates.
One of a kind charming house.

It’s almost impossible to find a house with enough actual bedrooms for 4 adult couples and a kid or two, so this house was a find. And it’s right on Chincoteague Bay on Main Street not too far from the bridge. But what we loved most is the personality of the house! Everything about the building itself and how it is decorated is lovely and comfortable for our big group. I can’t decide which feature is my favorite, but some of the best are: the view from the kitchen window, the kitchen itself, the window seat in the front room, the deck on the second floor, and the view from the attic suite! We love this house so much.

All good except door knobs fall off and the oven could only be turned on to broil

The rental staff were great! The house is unique and charming. The rent for the week is higher than most because of the size of the property. I never leave unfavorable comments, however, the house was not clean - dirty microwave, cob webs on kitchen light fixtures, coffee grounds still in the coffee maker and sand in the carpets throughout the house. The property is in need of quite a few repairs and up keep. The 2 door knobs that came off last year are still broken this year. Water stains on the ceilings in multiple rooms, pocket door to the bath room on the second floor is stuck in the wall and the thermostats needed the batteries changed. The electric in the kitchen went off 3 times because of the refrigerator, stove, microwave and appliances all being on the same circuit. The microwave needed to be relocated as well as the coffee maker in order to mitigate the circuit tripping (The combination of the refrigerator, and microwave on at the same time over loaded the circuit). These things aside, we had a very enjoyable and relaxing week!

Manager's Response
Hi there! We are sorry about the cleanliness of the home. We would have gladly sent our cleaners back in. :) Please reach out to us next time. I am going to pass this review over to the homeowners- and see what we can get done about the outlets. As far as the water stain, the stain happened right before the rental season. The leak was taken care - but the drywall is being repaired this off season. Thanks again for staying with us! :)
Great view from a nice house

We needed a place for lots of people for a long weekend in Chincoteague. The Lavinder House worked just perfectly. This is my second time working with this rental agency, and it all goes super smoothly. The house was clean and just as the pictures represented. The house is quirky in its layout. But the star of the show is the view of the bay. So tranquil and expansive. There’s a really nice second floor deck that is just a lovely place to see the water. Also, the kitchen is a charming rustic space with a large window opening out to the bay as well.
Great place for a great experience!!

The location is absolutely amazing with a great view of the water - sunset is awesome. The place is packed with stuff so that you wont need to bring anything other than your clothes. They even have kayaks and kickboards. We had a great time in the place since it is very close to where the action is, but far enough to enjoy the peace and serenity.
The roof in some of the rooms is lower so you have to be careful, and the handles/door knobs seem pretty old and fragile. A slightly more thorough cleaning may help too, not that the place was messy or dirty.
Overall, the house was a perfect blend of old and modern and a great place to stay for your vacation.

A vintage house with steep stairs, low ceilings and squeaky floors, well maintained for the most part. The location is wonderful and sunset views are amazing. However we did at times hear footsteps on the 2nd or 3rd floor when no one was upstairs, and not to mention lights that would randomly come on or off. Regardless, we enjoyed our stay.
Great rental

Great little spot for a getaway. View of the water was amazing. Kayaking access from the backyard. Narrow spots in the house with low ceiling areas. The screened in porch gets soaked with a good rain. Don't leave anything that can't get wet out there. Otherwise a lovely older style home. Would definitely stay again.
Property Manager Response:
Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback and for renting our home, Lavinder House. Over the past 15 years since purchasing the house, we have added many upgrades in an effort to make the house more comfortable for our guests (new windows, new air conditioning, new decking, etc). We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you'll come back again! -Owners, Jack and Maka

Overall ok. Lavinder house is a little eccentric, but comfortable. I do wish the air conditioning worked better on the 3rd floor. Temps got to 81F most afternoons. Kitchen knives need sharpening. One of my kids claimed his bed (boathouse side) was lumpy (I told him to change his mattress cover). We were satisfied and hope to rent the property again. This note was written by Ed Zumstein.

I enjoyed our stay. The views are great. My son spent a lot of time on the back top deck! A few of the remotes needed new batteries, but that was just a trip to the store. Yes there are some low doorways on the second floor... ask my head. But i eventually learned to duck! The remote to the extra a/c on the second floor bedroom did not seem to work( but that could just be user error)! I would stay in the Lavender home again. We enjoyed it!! Chincoteague was a great place to relax, see the horses, enjoy the beach which is a national park so kept very well!!!
Enjoy it!!

We had a great time, the house was very beautiful. The sunset views were simply amazing!! The stairs are a bit steep, as with many vintage houses, so if you have problems with stairs be cautious.. The island was just entering stage 3 of the Covid lock downs, so many of the restaurants were limited in seating and menus so call ahead to make sure what is available and many of the shops had limited numbers of customers at once, if they were even open.
Our only complaint of the house was the the 3rd floor ac unit was missing remote control, and we could not find any controls on the unit. Fortunately my son was able to find directions on line to pair one of the 2nd floor remotes to the the 3rd floor to get it turned on and set appropriately. We also did not receive the welcome bag from the rental agency when we checked in, we were told it would be delivered to the house when it came in later that week, but it never arrived.

We enjoyed our stay at the house! The views are amazing especially from the upper deck and bedrooms. Definitely a vintage house and with that comes some low ceilings and squeaky floors. The kitchen could use a little reorganizing with the silverware. House keeping left a few things untouched before we got there but overall we really enjoyed our stay.

This was such a lovely getaway! I definitely enjoyed my stay and so glad I booked the property. The multiple decks were great for relaxing and water gazing, fully stocked kitchen (very helpful since dining options are limited in Chincoteague now, esp. outside safe dining). Note that many ceilings are low, which could be a problem for some (but my friend and I are both short). My only gripe is that there was no paper towels, coffee filters for machine or soap. Considering were in the midst of a pandemic, seems short-sighted not to provide soapat least in the kitchen! But thats a small thing, and Id definitely return!
We had a great time! Thank you for the goodie bag! Beautiful sunsets from the upper deck, and a wonderful location for the house. Love Victorian homes and their charms. The bedroom glass door off the deck really should have a covering of some kind since people can walk by it and see in. That was an issue several times. Also the porch had a lot of unsightly junk and furniture on it, making it not a very pleasant place to hang. Other than that, it was a lovely stay!!! The house’s gardens were very pretty as well!
